For a firmer, flatter stomach.

Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fatty tissue between the chest and the pubic area, when liposuction alone is not enough to achieve a flat, well-defined abdomen because the skin has lost its elasticity and shows stretch marks. In the great majority of cases the abdominal muscles are plicated (closed with sutures) to give a more defined waist, a more harmonious shape and a stronger abdominal wall that helps prevent hernias. Liposuction is often combined with the abdominoplasty to define the body contour.
If the excess skin and fat is limited to the lower abdomen, a mini abdominoplasty can be performed.
What results can I expect?
The results of an abdominoplasty are dramatic and have a strong emotional impact. Visible changes appear immediately after surgery. Post-operative swelling may still be present for weeks or even months, but once it subsides the final result can be seen. Lymphatic drainage massage sessions are very important to improve the final result and speed up recovery.
Am I a good candidate?
An abdominoplasty can be performed on men and women in good health. It is a suitable procedure for women who have had children and want to correct diastasis recti and remove excess skin. It is also suitable for men and women who have been obese or have gone through major weight changes and still have fat deposits and loose skin. If hernias are present, they can be repaired during the same operation.
Abdominoplasty or Lipoabdominoplasty?
The main difference between the two procedures is that an abdominoplasty removes excess skin and corrects diastasis recti, while a lipoabdominoplasty also removes excess fat. An abdominoplasty is performed when there is no excess fat and the only corrections needed are loose skin and diastasis recti (when the abdominal muscles have separated). A lipoabdominoplasty is performed when liposuction alone is not enough to achieve a flat, well-defined abdomen and diastasis recti or hernias also need correcting. Combining both techniques leads to a better aesthetic result.
Whether to perform an abdominoplasty or a lipoabdominoplasty is a decision to be made together with Dr. Marco Romeo.
High-definition liposuction and abdominal etching
High-definition liposuction, also known as abdominal etching, is a combination of technology and artistry that takes the results of liposuction and lipoabdominoplasty to a new level. It is one of the most popular surgical procedures today: it not only removes extra fat but also sculpts the body and creates the features of an athletic physique, with defined abdominal muscles. An abdominoplasty can be combined with high-definition liposuction, and together the two techniques remove loose skin and excess fat to achieve a strong, well-defined abdomen.
After the Abdominoplasty (Recovery)
After an abdominoplasty you should expect to be off work for one to two weeks, depending on the type of job. After two weeks you will be able to return to most everyday activities, and after a month to physical exertion.
Drains are removed within 24 to 72 hours. You will need to wear an abdominal compression garment for a month after surgery, to help the skin adhere to the muscle and to reduce the risk of hematomas and seromas. For a faster recovery and better skin retraction, we recommend lymphatic drainage massage as soon as your surgeon considers the abdomen can be handled, usually after the first week.
