In a deep, rigorous, and very pleasant chat with the fantastic journalist Mar\u00eda Velasco<\/strong>, we had the opportunity to discuss aesthetic surgery from a place of honesty and science.<\/p>\n

For nearly half an hour, we broke down everything a patient should know before entering an operating room<\/strong>, moving away from social media filters and focusing on medical reality.<\/p>\n

For all of those who couldn’t listen to the interview, I want to share with you the fundamental pillars<\/strong> we discussed:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

My goal in the operating room is never to create a “catalog nose”<\/em>, but to restore harmony to the face<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If after surgery your acquaintances tell you that you have more light in your eyes or that you look more rested, but they cannot identify what has changed, we have done a good job<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”2. I explained to Mar\u00eda how ultrasonic technology<\/strong> has changed the rules of the game: by using vibrations to sculpt the bone, we do not damage soft tissues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Custom techniques: Preservation vs. Structural” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23111111″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1771838122912{padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]We talked about how we adapt the technique to each anatomy<\/strong>. There is no single approach; depending on the case, we opt for a preservation rhinoplasty<\/strong> (where we preserve the patient’s original anatomy as much as possible) or a structural technique<\/strong> (open or closed) to provide the necessary support when the base structure is weak, or a hybrid<\/strong> one, combining the concepts of preservation and structural techniques.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”4. The forgotten factor: Skin and “Vitamin P“” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23111111″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1771838150075{padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The skin is the “suit”<\/em> that covers the nose. Very thick skin<\/strong>, common in ethnic rhinoplasties, is a major surgical challenge. It requires very specific support techniques and demands a lot of “Vitamin P”: Patience<\/strong> from the patient.<\/p>\n

The definitive result of a rhinoplasty, especially in thick skin, can take between a year and a half to two years<\/strong> to fully settle.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”5. The danger of non-surgical rhinoplasty with hyaluronic acid” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23111111″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1771838194183{padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Mar\u00eda brought up non-surgical alternatives. Hyaluronic acid<\/strong> can camouflage a hump, but it adds volume<\/strong> (makes the nose bigger) and does not solve breathing problems.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, its repeated use generates internal fibrosis<\/strong>, forcing us to dissolve the product with hyaluronidase<\/em> before we can operate safely.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”6. Today’s patient and the ethics of knowing how to say “NO“” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23111111″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1771838229542{padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Faced with increasingly younger patients and the rise in male demand, I highlighted the enormous responsibility we surgeons have to manage expectations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
